SGRO JU JITSU
Classes forming now, and start Mon Aug 4, 2025

At SGRO JU JITSU, we blend family values with realistic self-defense oriented martial arts. Our Korean Ju Jitsu program is built on techniques proven effective in military combatives, adapted to suit all ages and skill levels in a safe, supportive environment. Whether you're seeking personal growth, fitness, or self-defense—especially for women and families—our system delivers confidence, discipline, and readiness.

At SGRO JU JITSU, families train together, grow together, and become stronger—both mentally and physically. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your skills, our programs provide expert instruction in a supportive, ego-free environment.
We emphasize fun, safety, and control in everything we do. This is not a "FIGHT CLUB"—we do not practice full-contact or knockout techniques. If you're seeking a high-risk, competitive fight environment, this isn’t the place. But if you’re looking to build confidence, discipline, and real self-defense skills in a respectful community, you’ve found the right school!

SGRO JU JITSU draws from the same principles from the core of the FIGHT CUT/STAT Combatives Course, as taught to the US Special Forces, 82nd ABN and CA PsyOp. (Read about the history of FIGHT CUT/STAT below)

Our balanced curriculum includes:
  • 20% Atemi Waza – Striking techniques for distance control and self-defense
  • 20% Nage Waza – Sweeps and throws for takedown effectiveness
  • 20% Kansetsu Waza – Joint locks for control and restraint and Shime Waza – Chokeholds (taught from age 13 and up) for advanced grappling
  • 20% Ne Waza – Ground fighting skills to defend from any position
  • 20% Filipino Kali – Integrated throughout, focusing on stick and knife defense.
Our program teaches the art of "Mu Sul Ju Jitsu"; originally designed for military use, adapted here to focus on personal safety with minimal use of force. Realistic drills, scenario training, and strength, flexibility and endurance conditioning ensure every student gains practical skill and real confidence. Mu Sul Ju Jitsu is especially effective for women’s self-protection against larger attackers

Classes start Mon Aug 4, 2025.  Contact us for more info!

Why is Ju-Jitsu called the "gentle art"? Because Ju Jitsu emphasizes using leverage, technique, and body mechanics to overcome a stronger or larger opponent, rather than relying on brute strength. This involves redirecting an opponent's force, using joint locks, chokes, and positional control to subdue them with minimal physical effort. While the techniques can be powerful and effective, they are designed to be applied with minimal aggression and maximum efficiency, making it a "gentle" approach compared to striking-based martial arts.  Mu Sul Ju Jitsu is Korean Ju Jitsu.
"Mu" means "Fighting" or "Martial/Military".  "Sul" means "Techniques". "Ju" means "Gentle".  "Jitsu" means "Techniques"
Together "Mu Sul" Ju Jitsu means "The Fighting Art of Gentle Techniques".  Today the term we use is

"Combatives"

The history of FIGHT CUT/STAT

In 2000, David Sgro, our Chief Instructor, was honored to be contracted by 2/3 Special Forces Group (Airborne)—the elite U.S. Green Berets—to teach his F.I.G.H.T. C.U.T. (Fully Integrated Grappling and Hitting Techniques, Close-Up Techniques) Combatives Program. After this in 2002 he was contracted to train over 1,100 Airborne Soliders from the 82nd ABN and Certify them as Instructors.  In 2005 USACAPOC (United States Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command) contacted David Sgro to develop a program to go ARMY WIDE with STAT (Securing Techniques And Tactics).  STAT was designed  for  Civil Affairs (CA) and Psychological Operations (PSYOP) Soldiers that were not classified as "Combat Arms" in the U.S. Army, but still operated in potentially dangerous environments, with their roles primarily focused on support, information, and influence rather than direct combat. However in Oct 2006 USACAPOC was administratively reorganized under the U.S. Army Reserve Command (USARC),

Both FIGHT CUT and STAT draw from Japanese Ju-Jitsu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Tang Soo Do (Korean Karate), and Filipino Kali.
Both FIGHT CUT and STAT course was developed in response to the critical need for military personnel to receive effective, adaptable, and realistic hand-to-hand training for both combat and personal safety.
